Big Black, the guard cat

Eli and Joel are spending the week with me. Todd had to go to France on a business trip. Last night(Eli's first over-night here in months) I turned Eli's bed down and immediately both cats made themselves at home! You can see them both in this photo. Eli went to bed without any problems and slept a nice long night...but Big Black sat outside his door all night...on guard. Big Black is very protective, especially of E! Animals are so instinctive.

I always find it interesting to look into an animal's eyes and try to meet the 'person' in there.

As you know, our first attempt at finding a dog to be that sort of companion and protector for Christopher failed, but I think we will try again someday - when he is older and with a different kind of dog.

Our cat, of course, despite her charms, is useless.

"Our cat, of course, despite her charms, is useless."

Referring to cats in general, this is one of the most true statements that's flown across cyberspace in some time.

Joel, does that mean only Patches is useless as you referred to 'her'. She is eternally scarred phychologically by a loving boy who used to give her nightmares in the daytime.
